First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their support and participation in the 2008 Stars & Stripes Junior Classic. We had many golfers travel from different states, thank you!
We had unbelievably great weather, and an almost perfect turnout. The golf was fantastic in every division. There were a lot of birdies being made and a lot of excitement in each division.
The Girls 6-7 division had four great players. Brianne Bolden came in first place with a 45, followed by Reese Wilson, Erin Matos, and Megan Furtney. Way to go girls!
In the Boys 6-7 division, Collier Curd of Bowling Green, Kentucky was the first place finisher with a red hot round of 37. Behind him was a tight race with Max Farley at 44, Marco Punzo at 45,Yaqub Singhsumalee and Hayden Henry at 47,and Jack Cronin of St. Louis at 49. Good scores boys!
In the Girls 8-9 division, Myah Jackson got started early with a couple of birdies en route to her winning score of 41. She was followed by Gianna Furrie with a 45, Hannah Carlson with a 52 and Gabbi Suazo carded a 65 in her first tournament ever. Good Job Girls!
In the Boys 8-9 division, Thomas Calbi fired an even par 36 to win the division. He was followed by Brian Terlesky of Ohio in second, Ricky Costello took third, Jacob Lehotay took fourth (on his birthday), and rounding out the top five was Varun Chopra. These boys can play!
In the Girls 10-11 division, it was real close. Claire Hodges of Missouri was the winner with a 77. Julia Calbi 78, Abbey Carlson 79, Erica Jackson 82, and Madasyn Pettersen 84 rounded out the top five. Great division girls!
The Boys 10-11 division had some great scores. Trent Wallace went two deep with a 70 to be the first 10-11 Stars&Stripes Champion just narrowly edging Sebastian Dobon by 1 stroke. Sebastian also came in under par with a 71. Third place went to Russell Matos in a scorecard playoff with Orion Yamat, both of them at 75. Nick Brady came in fifth place with a nice score of 76. Good Job Boys!
In the Girls 12-13 division, we had five girls who can really play golf. Ariana Furrie came in first with an 82, followed by Lexi Harkins 83, Dana Gattone 88 (her personal Best!), Renee Solberg 89, and Danielle Brown with a 93. These girls went out as a five some and played in less than 5 hours! Thank you for keeping pace and good job girls!
The Boys 12-13 division turned out to be one of the most exciting divisions. Ian Mankoff turned it on the back nine and carded the only round in the sixties with a 69! Doug Ghim, the T.O.C. winner, came in a close second with a 2 under 70. He was followed by another boy under par, Nick Hardy. Nick carded a one under 71 and was followed by Player of the Year Ray knoll with a 74, and local favorite David Basa rounded out the top five with a 75. WOW! Those are some great scores! Nice job Boys!
